Pregnancy-specific beta-1-glycoprotein 1 (PSG1) is derived from the syncytiotrophoblast and reaches concentrations in the serum of term pregnant women of 100 to 290 mg/l. As an important component of the human placenta, PSG1s molecular signature within the immunoglobulin (Ig) superfamily contributes to its important role in supporting pregnancy.
