Sodium Citrate Buffer, 0.1M, pH 4.0 is a commonly used buffer. Sodium Citrate Buffer, 0.1M, pH 4.0 resists pH fluctuations, chelates metal ions, and regulates the redox potential of the system. Sodium Citrate Buffer, 0.1M, pH 4.0 is used in heat-induced epitope retrieval (HIER) to reverse the loss of antigenicity of certain epitopes in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues.
