The homodimeric flavoprotein TRXR1/TXNRD1 plays a key role in cellular redox regulation, growth and differentiation. It reduces the disulfide protein thioredoxin (Trx) to its dithiol-containing form and exhibits reductase activity towards hydrogen peroxide (H2O2).
