The VSTM5 protein acts as a cell adhesion-like membrane protein in the central nervous system (CNS) and exerts a critical influence on the positioning and complexity of central neurons by regulating their membrane morphology and dynamics. It is actively involved in the formation of neuronal dendrites and protrusions, including dendritic filopodia, contributing to the complex structure of neural networks.
