WEE2 protein is an oocyte-specific tyrosine kinase that plays an important role in meiosis during prophase I and metaphase II. It maintains meiotic arrest at the germinal vesicle (GV) stage by phosphorylating CDK1 at Tyr-15, inhibiting CDK1 activity and preventing reentry.
