Dopal is an aldehyde that can be generated in Parkinsons disease by enzymatic degradation of dopamine. Dopal can generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), and triggers aggregation of alpha-synuclein. Dopal elicits alpha-synuclein accumulation and hampers alpha-synuclein clearance in primary neurons[1][2].
