  • Scientific Description
Chemical. CAS: 446-72-0. Formula: C15H10O5. MW: 270.24. Genistein is an isoflavonoid phytoestrogen that has been found in soybeans and has kinase inhibitory, anticancer, pro-cancer and hepatoprotective properties. It is a cell-permeable, reversible, substrate competitive tyrosine kinase inhibitor (including EGFR phosphorylation), implicated in almost all cell growth and proliferation signal cascades. Genistein inhibits proliferation and induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in a variety of cancer cells. It is antiangiogenic agent, down-regulates the transcription of genes involved in controlling angiogenesis. On a molecular level it also inhibits mammalian DNA topoisomerase II and DNA methyltransferase, and binds to estrogen receptor beta. Genistein has also antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. It is an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor, PPAR activator, GLUT4-mediated glucose uptake inhibitor, MALT1 inhibitor and acts as an agonist at the GPR30 receptor. - Genistein is an isoflavonoid phytoestrogen that has been found in soybeans and has kinase inhibitory, anticancer, pro-cancer and hepatoprotective properties.
