Lactacystin is an antibiotic Streptomyces spp. the metabolite and is an effective and selective proteasome inhibitor (IC50: 4.8 microM for 20S proteasome). Lactacystin inhibits cell growth and induces neurite outgrowth and also inhibits the lysosomal enzyme cathepsin A.
