- Scientific DescriptionThis gene belongs to a group of vacuolar protein sorting (VPS) genes. The encoded protein is a component of a large multimeric complex, termed the retromer complex, involved in retrograde transport of proteins from endosomes to the trans-Golgi network. The close structural similarity between the yeast and human proteins that make up this complex suggests a similarity in function. Expression studies in yeast and mammalian cells indicate that this protein interacts directly with VPS35, which serves as the core of the retromer complex. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.

![Various whole cell extracts (30 μg) were separated by 10% SDS-PAGE, and the membrane was blotted with VPS26 antibody [C2C3], C-term (GTX106297) diluted at 1:1000. The HRP-conjugated anti-rabbit IgG antibody (GTX213110-01) was used to detect the primary antibody. Corresponding RNA expression data for the same cell lines are based on Human Protein Atlas program.](https://www.genetex.com/upload/website/prouct_img/normal/GTX106297/GTX106297_44202_20210122_WB_TPM_watermark_w_23060120_676.webp)
