  • Antibody Specificity
This antibody reacts with the 46 kD cytokeratin polypeptide 20, a type I cytokeratin that is found in duodenal epithelium, glandular gastric and pyloric epithelium, urothelium and Merkel cells of the epidermis. It does not cross-react with other cytokerat
  • Application Supplier Note
Used to identify and differentiate different carcinomas. This antibody can be used on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections. Prolonged fixation in buffered formalin can destroy the epitope. For optimal results, tissue sections should either be treated with high-temperature based antigenic unmasking technique, or with proteolytic enzymes such as AutoZyme or Pronase. The optimal conditions should be determined by the individual laboratory. This antibody is not suitable for use on cryostat sections or cell smears due to non-specific cross-reaction with negative epithelia. Dilute according to the particular application being used. In general, the 0.05M Borate pH 8.0 containing 0.15M Sodium Chloride, 0.05% Sodium Azide, is a good diluent to use with most antibodies.

  • Scientific Description
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the keratin family. The keratins are intermediate filament proteins responsible for the structural integrity of epithelial cells and are subdivided into cytokeratins and hair keratins. The type I cytokeratins consist of acidic proteins which are arranged in pairs of heterotypic keratin chains. This cytokeratin is a major cellular protein of mature enterocytes and goblet cells and is specifically expressed in the gastric and intestinal mucosa. The type I cytokeratin genes are clustered in a region of chromosome 17q12-q21. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
