CD21L is strongly expressed in reticulum dendritic cells and R4/23 might be used for the identification of these cells. For instance, Schriever et al. (1989) used this antibody (among others) in an attempt to differentiate follicular dendritic cells from lymphoid dendritic cells. This antibody can be also utilised in the characterisation of certain cancers; for example, one group used it in an immunohistochemical analysis of frozen samples of tumour cells from diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (Ogawa et al., 2004).
